The library is a great place to volunteer! There are always books to re-shelf and other projects to help with.Drop in or sign up for a regular time! Even a few minutes can make a big difference! Thank you.

  • Library books are due on their scheduled library day.
  • Students must pay their fines before they are allowed to renew or checkout another book.
  • If your child was sick, the fine for that day and any subsequent days will be forgiven.
  • If you are going on vacation, books need to be returned/renewed before you leave, otherwise late fines will be charged.

 

  • Kindergarten and first grade students check out one or two books per week depending on the time of year.
  • Second through sixth grade students check out 2 books per week.
  • Books are due 7 days after the checkout date.
  • Students may renew the book if they have not yet finished it unless there is a waiting list for the title.
  • Students may only get new books when their old books are returned.
  • There are no fines assessed for overdue books, but payment must be made for damaged or lost books.
  • When a book is overdue for 21 days, it is marked as lost.

Nooks are available for students in grades 4 – 6. The NOOK user agreement Policy must be filled out, signed and returned to Mrs. Hansen. NOOKs are to stay at school and are not allowed to go home.

Here are some tips on caring for your library materials:

  • Keep food, drinks, babies, and pets away from your books.
  • Remember to wash your hands before reading a book.
  • Treat your books gently.
  • Report any book damage to the library staff so they may fix the book properly.
  • Use a bookmark for saving your place in a book. Do not fold the corners of the page or use a pencil to save your place.
  • Do not turn a book down on its “face” with the pages open
  • Keep your books dry at all times. Carry water bottles in a separate bag, far away from your books. On rainy days, be sure to put your books in a backpack and make sure your backpack stays dry and off the ground.

Occasionally, Longfellow Elementary Media Center resources are lost or damaged and must be replaced. Students and their families are responsible for replacing lost or damaged library resources at replacement cost. Mrs. Hansen will notify all students who have problems with lost or damaged library resources.

Mrs. Hansen will routinely send home overdue notices via email or paper. Fines for lost books are issued at each report card period. Fines will be on the students PowerSchool account. Unpaid fines will be added to a student’s permanent school record at the close of each school year.

Here are some options for replacement:

  • Return the item undamaged (best option).
  • Replace the item with an exact copy of the lost or damaged item. A $3.00 processing fee will be charged to prepare the book for circulation.
  • Pay for the item at replacement cost plus $3.00 processing fee per title. If a book is paid for and subsequently found within a year, and is in good condition, the family will receive a refund for the lost book fine. The $3.00 processing fee is non-refundable.
